Modernizing Legal Finance Integration with
Boomi for an Intapp-Enabled Law Firm

w-100

Client Overview

Our client is a well-established UK-based law firm founded in the 20th century, with a strong national and international presence. The firm employs over 600 professionals and 70 partners, providing a wide range of legal services across multiple industries. Known for its expertise and client-focused approach, the firm relies heavily on modern technology platforms to manage complex financial and operational workflows. As part of its digital transformation journey, the firm wanted to modernise its integration architecture within the Intapp ecosystem to ensure greater reliability, scalability, and operational efficiency for its finance processes.

Business Objective

The law firm aimed to stabilise and modernise its financial integration architecture by introducing a scalable middleware layer capable of supporting complex workflows across multiple systems. Their goal was to replace fragile point-to-point integrations with a more reliable, maintainable architecture, using Boomi as the integration platform. By implementing a robust integration framework, the firm wanted to improve data reliability, enforce consistent business logic, reduce manual intervention in financial processes, and create a future-ready architecture capable of integrating additional enterprise systems such as CRM and HR platforms.

Challenges

Point-to-Point Integrations

Microsoft PowerApps directly communicated with the Practice Management System Elite 3E via APIs. Although functional, this point-to-point integration made the architecture fragile and difficult to maintain.

Rigid Integration Architecture

Direct system integrations increased complexity and limited scalability. Changes in one system could potentially break dependent applications.

Lack of Centralized Orchestration

Without middleware, there was no central layer to validate data, apply business logic, or orchestrate financial processes across systems.

Limited Monitoring

The absence of centralized logging and error management made troubleshooting difficult and increased operational overhead for IT teams.

Solutions

Middleware-Based Integration Architecture

NeosAlpha introduced Boomi as the central integration layer between Microsoft PowerApps and the Practice Management System Elite 3E, replacing fragile direct integrations with a scalable middleware architecture.

Centralised Data Orchestration

All financial data flows were routed through Boomi to manage data transformation, validation, and business rule enforcement. This approach ensured consistent integration logic across systems.

Connector-Based Integration

Boomi’s HTTP Connector was used to expose APIs where required, while the OData Connector ensured seamless communication with Elite 3E. This architecture enabled reliable and secure connectivity between applications.

Integration with Microsoft PowerApps

The law firm’s PowerApps Finance Request Application served as the user interface for finance professionals. Boomi handled backend integrations, ensuring that PowerApps remained lightweight and focused on user interactions rather than system-level logic.

Data Transformation and Validation

Boomi’s mapping and transformation capabilities ensured that all incoming data was validated, formatted, and logged before reaching Elite 3E, improving overall data reliability.

Scalable Integration Framework

The integration architecture was designed to support future integrations with systems such as CRM, HR, and other enterprise applications, ensuring long-term scalability.

Supported Financial Operations

The Boomi-based integration enabled several automated finance workflows that streamlined key legal finance operations across the firm. These included client record search and retrieval, matter lookup for financial processing, posting client account receipts, validating client account balances, managing office-to-client account transfers, supporting disbursement creation workflows, and enabling secure client account transfers.

Results

Improved System Reliability

By introducing Boomi as the integration layer, changes in Elite APIs no longer impacted the PowerApps front-end system.

Centralised Monitoring and Visibility

All integration flows are now monitored through Boomi, providing complete visibility into transactions and system behaviour.

Structured Error Handling

Errors are now captured and managed systematically, making troubleshooting faster and more efficient.

Enhanced Scalability

The middleware architecture allows new integrations and workflows to be added without disrupting existing systems.
